WELFORD, Richard

Founder and Chairman, CSR Asia

Introductory Keynote Speaker, 2014

Dr. Richard WELFORD is one of the founders and the chairman of CSR Asia. He has over twenty years of experience working in the fields of environmental management and social responsibility. He was one of the early pioneers in developing social audit and reporting methodologies with UK-based organisations such as The Body Shop, IBM and Eastern Electricity in the 1990s. From 2002 to 2010 Richard was also a professor at the University of Hong Kong and headed up the Corporate Environmental Governance Programme. He has worked with some of the leading multinational enterprises and local companies and NGOs in Asia including Disney, CLP, Nike, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Swire Pacific, Cathay Pacific, HP, IBM, HSBC, Citigroup, Accor, Credit Suisse, UBS, P&G and Adidas.

 

Richard’s work has had a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and social justice. He has worked with companies on developing their CSR strategies and with NGOs on developing private sector engagement plans. He has also worked on policies and implementation plans covering a range of issues including governance, supply chain risks, human rights, community investment, poverty alleviation, conservation and biodiversity.

 

Richard is also a Director of ERP Environment, a UK based publisher and sits on the Board of AIDS Concern in Hong Kong.

KILBURN, Mike

Senior Manager, Environment, Hong Kong Airport Authority

Concluding Keynote Speaker, 2014

Mike Kilburn joined Airport Authority Hong Kong as Senior Manager, Environment in September 2012. He is responsible for developing a sustainability strategy that includes a sustainability reporting framework and a strategy to position HKIA as the world’s greenest airport. He was responsible for developing AAHK’s first sustainability report, which was published in August 2013.

 

Prior to joining AAHK Mike was Head of Environmental Strategy for public policy think tank Civic Exchange from 2008 - 2012, and from 2002 – 2008 he was the Public Policy Analyst for Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden.

 

Outside work he is Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society and a Director of the Hong Kong Countryside Foundation.

 

Kilburn has a degree in Chinese and Management Studies from the University ofDurham, UK and a professional background in public relations consultancy.

CHAN, Rachel

Rachel co-founded the Make a Difference (MaD), a not-for-profit programme that seeks to inspire and empower a new generation of creative, compassionate, collaborative and cosmopolitan leaders. She is also the Covenor Let’s Make a Difference, the network of like-minded organizations formed to support MaD. Her day-to-day job is being the Chief Catalyst of InnoFoco, a multidisciplinary network of catalysts aspiring to make a meaningful difference to business and to the world through service design and innovation. She helps organizations identify new service opportunities, create desirable customer experience and build brand equity.

CHOY, Linda

Linda rejoined Hong Kong Disneyland Resort in July 2013 as Vice President, Public Affairs, to oversee government relations, external relations, community relations, media relations and internal communications. Linda has a wealth of experience in media, communications and government administration.

 

In her previous role as Political Assistant to the Secretary for the Environment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, she advised the Secretary on the formulation and implementation of environmental and energy policies. She was Director of Government Relations for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort from 2007 to 2008. Her previous experience included Political Reporter, China News Editor and News Editor of South China Morning Post, and Administrative Officer of the HKSAR Government.

Dr. CHAN, Lai Kiu

Director, Hysan Development Company Limited

Dr. Chan is the Director for Design and Project of Hysan Development Company Limited. She is the design leader in charge of their flagship development, Hysan Place and a number of rebranding projects in Causeway Bay. Prior joining Hysan, Dr. Chan has already completed a number of award winning architectural design. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Architecture from the University of Hong Kong.

 

Dr. Chan previously as an advisor to Central Policy Unit of HKSAR on the development of Creative Industry and the columnist of Yangcheng Evening News Weekly Creative Page in PRC. She is currently one of the Board of Directors of Hong Kong Architecture Centre.

Dr. Thomas Tang is the Director for Sustainability, Asia, AECOM. He has 20 years of experience in environmental management and sustainability assessments specializing in climate strategy, stakeholder engagement and low carbon infrastructure design. As well as possessing experience in sustainability, Dr. Tang has a background in management consulting specializing in strategy and facilitating stakeholder dialogue.

 

Dr. Tang is a Fellow of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment, Vice Chairman of the Sustainability and Environment Committee, HK General Chamber of Commerce, an Associate Member of the International Construction Business Management Research Group at the University of Technology Malaysia and a former President of the Institute of Management Consultants (HK)

Dr. KWAN, Calvin Lee

General Manager of Sustainability, The Link Management Ltd.

Dr. Kwan is currently the General Manager, Sustainability at The Link Management Limited. In this capacity, he is spearheading and developing the company's corporate sustainability strategy. He has over 10 years of experience in establishing corporate sustainability strategies, emerging environmental risk management, and developing sustainability culture and awareness through stakeholder engagement. He is also an adjunct assistant professor in HKUST’s Division of Environment.

 

Dr. Kwan is a council member of the Hong Kong Energy Conservation Association, a registered Association of Energy Engineers (Hong Kong Chapter) Carbon Auditing Professional.

SANDIN, Patrick

Patrik is the Director of Greater China for The Natural Step, an international Sustainability NGO founded in Sweden 25 year ago, and currently has presence in 15 countries. Patrik has over 18 years of management consulting experience with global firms advising boards and management teams on Strategy, M&A, Supply Chain Transformation, Business Model Innovation and Sustainability.

PHANG, Stefan

Regional Sustainability Director, Sealed Air Corporation

Panelist

Stefan is the Regional Director for Sustainability & Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), for the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Africa and Turkey Region (AMAT), at Sealed Air Corporation. Stefan works closely with customers, government bodies, NGOs and international agencies in CSR activities, focusing in the area of environmental protection, child protection and disaster relief. Stefan is also a strong advocate of CSV – Creating Shared Value – and he is leading the Company to move away from philanthropy (donation and volunteering) and typical CSR (compliance and good corporate citizenship) to CSV - creating shared value by addressing societal needs with a business model. He specializes in helping needy communities create sustainable livelihood programs as a means to life them out from poverty.

 

Stefan is a Child Protection Advocate accredited with the International Child Protection Network (ICPN) for Asia. Currently, Stefan leads over 50 active projects in the region, mostly projects on child protection, anti-human trafficking, livelihood programs and disaster relief and rehabilitation, covering over 50,000 children living in orphanages, children shelters and disaster relocation camps around Asia, Middle East and Africa. He was recently awarded the UK Crown’s Medal for outstanding contribution in working with partners to address trafficking victims’ needs and bringing offenders to justice.

Dr. YIU, Hing Leung

Electronics Cluster Head, Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks

Panelist

Dr. Yiu is currently the head of electronics cluster of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. Dr. Yiu has a wealth of technical and management experience in the field of information technology, computing, telecommunications, integrated circuit design, new product development, sales and business development.

 

Dr. Yiu has worked in various departments of the Motorola Semiconductor Hong Kong for fifteen years. He also has experience in start-up companies. When Dr. Yiu served as General Manager of Motorola network and computing systems semiconductor products group Asia, he managed a business operation of more than US$600 million. Prior to this, Dr. Yiu was responsible for a number of technology research and development projects, including the famous Dragon Ball microprocessor for handheld computers, and he is a holder of eight patents.

 

Dr. Yiu graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with Bachelor of Electronic Engineering. He has Master degrees in Electronic Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Executive MBA and Master of Science in Finance of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also has Doctor of Business Administration degree of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is currently a fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).

Winning by Redesigning the Value Chain

Value chain is the blanket term of supply chain, distribution network, retail outlets, customers and employees within organization. Opportunities in achieving business and community-shared value are tremendous given the wide arrays and scale of stakeholders that a business can have along the value chain. This is challenging but interesting. Our speakers in this panel will identify the challenges in this approach but yet offer what they have done to shake-up the traditional form of a value to chain to a more sustainable one.

HO, Brian

Partner, Fusion Consulting Limited

Moderator

Brian Ho is the Partner of Fusion Consulting. He has 11 years extensive experience on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability in China, and provides strategic consulting services to governmental agencies, corporations and non- profit organizations. As a recognized expert and opinion leader on CSR in China, he is frequently invited to speak at local and international conferences, interviewed by local and international media, and also a columnist at Chinese newspapers. He is also guest researcher at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business and the School of Philanthropy of Sun Yat-sen University, and lectures at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Before joining Fusion, Brian was the China Director of CSR Asia, an international agency promoting CSR. He received his Bachelor of Social Sciences from City University of Hong Kong and a Master of Social Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

KWONG, Samuel

Group EHS Manager, John Swire & Sons Hong Kong Limited

Samuel is the Group EHS Manager of John Swire & Sons (H.K.) Ltd. He joined Swire in 2005 to establish the sustainability team in the Swire Beverages, a strategy bottling partner of the Coca-Cola Company, and represented Swire on the Coca-Cola Environment & Safety Council. He is now leading Swire’s committees and working groups in developing group strategies and facilitating best practice sharing on various sustainability issues including energy efficiency, environment, occupational safety, and supply chain sustainability. Samuel has a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Philosophy from The University of Hong Kong, a Master of Science from ENTPE, France, an MBA from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a Bachelor of Law from The University of London.

CHAN, Natalie

Director of Corporate Responsiblity & Sustainability,

Hong Kong & Shanghai Hotels

Panelist

Natalie joined the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels (HSH) in 2011 as the Director of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability to lead the Group’s global strategy on corporate responsibility and sustainability, which included devising the Group’s long-term vision for sustainable luxury.

 

Natalie has a passion for corporate responsibility and sustainability issues and has more than fifteen years of experience in public private partnerships. Prior to joining HSH, she spent five years with the Swire Group, managing group‐level corporate responsibility policies and strategies. Natalie also worked at the South China Morning Post in managing its community investment and engagement programme.

 

Natalie is a Member of the Executive Committee of International Tourism Partnership and WWF Hong Kong Education Committee. She is a Certified Carbon Auditor of The Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), and holds a Master’s degree in Corporate Environmental Governance from the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. SCHMIEDEKNECHT, Maud

Consultant, A.T. Kearney

Panelist

Maud is a consultant at A.T. Kearney as a member of the sustainability core team. In 2012 and 2013 Maud was involved in running the German Sustainability Award (GSA), which honours companies having outstanding achievements in sustainability and breakthrough innovations that take sustainable development to the strategic level. 

 

On the academia side, in 2011 Maud published her award-winning doctoral thesis which analyzed the process of developing the ISO 26000 guidance document, the core subjects and issues pertaining to social responsibility. It also reflected on how to integrate socially responsible behaviour in organizations of any kind. Maud is a guest lecturer for business ethics at several universities.

 

Prior to joining A.T. Kearney, Maud designed management tools on global leadership development and trascultural management for Novartis Foundation on Sustainable Development in cooperation with the Konstanz Institute for Intercultural Management, Values and Communication.  Maud participated in the ISO 26000 working group on Social Responsibility and the German CSR-Forum.

KEH, Edwin

Lecturer, Wharton Business School - University of Pennsylvania

Panelist

Edwin is the CEO of the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel. He is also on Faculty at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania where he teaches supply chain operations. He is an expert in supply chain management and product development.

 

Until April 2010 Edwin was the SVP COO of Wal-Mart Global Procurement. Prior to Wal-Mart Edwin managed a consulting group that has done work for companies on supply chain, manufacturing, and product design. Edwin co-founded the Consortium For Operational Excellence in Greater China (COER GC). He also serves on multiple industry and educational boards. He advises several other social enterprises.

 

Edwin is the 2011 recipient of the Production and Operations Management Society’s Martin K. Starr Excellence in Production and Operations Management Practice Award.

To devise a strategy that creates both business and stakeholder values, businesses need to understand its stakeholders as well as the societal problems around the business. It becomes even more challenging when it a corporation is trying to integrate a sustainability factor. ECKERT, Zeb

Moderator

Zeb is a Hong Kong-based reporter for Bloomberg Television, covering the latest market and corporate developments for Bloomberg's Asian and European morning broadcasts.

 

He has distinguished himself with his foreign reporting assignments, which have taken him to the frontlines of Asia's biggest stories, including the aftermath of the devastating tsunami and nuclear crisis in Japan, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il's death, Thailand’s president election in 2011, and the aftermath of the deadliest Thai political violence in decades, to name a few.

 

Eckert also reported live from the 2010 G-20 Presidential Summit in Seoul where he interviewed global CEOs, finance ministers, and central bankers as the European sovereign debt crisis intensified.

CHIU, Julie

Director of Sales & Marketing, Wellcome

Panelist

As the Sales & Marketing Director, The Dairy Farm Co Ltd – Wellcome, Julie oversees the sales and marketing function of The Dairy Farm supermarket portfolio, representing the largest supermarket chain in Hong Kong with over 300 stores and serving 16M customer visits every month. Her responsibility extends beyond sales, brand & advertising to the management of four other business functions, namely online business & operation, corporate communications, business intelligence and customer service. Julie is also Wellcome's company spokesperson.

 

Julie has over 20 years of experience in local & regional marketing, business strategy as well as public affairs. Prior to her position at Dairy Farm - Wellcome, she had worked at a number of global companies including Citibank, Prudential Corporation Asia, Shell, Western Union and MassMutual Asia.

 

She is appointed as the Adjunct Lecturer by HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, teaching Marketing Strategy, Advertising and Customer Relationship Management.

CHAN, Dorothy

Corporate Sustainability Senior Manager

MTR Corporation Ltd.

Panelist

Dorothy is the Senior Manager, Corporate Responsibility of MTR Corporation. She has over 12 years of experience in reputation management, advising senior executives on strategic communications, and designing and implementing corporate strategy initiatives. She has helped organizations launch new initiatives that strengthen organizational development and establish new functions to access growth opportunities.

 

At the MTR Corporation, Dorothy serves as a catalyst in helping the company operate in a responsiblemanner to achieve its sustainable growth objectives. Previously at CLP Holdings, an investor-operator of energy assets in the Asia-Pacific region, she is responsible for reputation management through strategic advocacy and corporate citizenship.

 

Before CLP, Dorothy was Director of Commitments at the Clinton Global Initiative Asia, where sheworked with global leaders across sectors to develop corporate citizenship and philanthropic programs. During her tenure at the Asia Business Council, Dorothy briefed CEOs and chairman-level executives on business and social issues affecting Asia’s competitiveness.

HEGLAND, Ashley

Director for Sustainability Practice

Ashley serves as Director, Sustainability Practice for Edelman in Asia Pacific. He helps clients address social and environmental issues through strengthened dialogue and communications with NGOs, government, employees, customers, media and other critical stakeholders. He has designed and facilitated sustainability workshops, and consulted on regional sustainability strategy and communications with numerous multi-national companies, including, HSBC, The Coca-Cola Company, Starbucks, Wal-Mart, Samsung, and WWF, among others.

 

In addition to his work at Edelman, Hegland is the Chair of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong’s Sustainable Development Committee.

 

Ashley completed his MBA degree at the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, Canada, where he focused his studies on corporate sustainability strategy and communications, green marketing, and corporate reputation management.

MORLEY, Greg

Vice President of Human Resources (Asia Pacific), HASBRO

Based in Hong Kong. Greg has more than 20 years of human resources experience including his current role in Hasbro and a variety of roles with the Walt Disney Company working in the US, France and Asia. Prior to Disney, Greg was with GE for 8 years. Greg has an MBA and a Masters in HR. He is passionate about the critical role played by leaders and cultures in organizations.

WONG, Anson

Assistant Director - Sustainable & Inclusive Development

Moderator

Anson is the Assistant Director, Research Centre-Sustainable & Inclusive Development, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB). With +10 years of CSR & sustainability experiences, Anson heads the Research Center on Sustainable & Inclusive Development at CKGSB, which focuses on the research of CSR/ESG, strategic philanthropy, and China's sustainable development. Before joining the School, he was the chief representative and the Associate Director of Philanthropy at the US-based Nature Conservancy in Hong Kong, overseeing major gifts fundraising (US$ 2M/year) in the Asia Pacific.

 

He has participated in different international events on corporate sustainability as speaker. Also, he founded his own company on environmental technology and renewable energy while working as a Senior Research Analyst for CSR Asia in Hong Kong.

GLASGO, Ryan

Finance Director, ADM Capital Foundation

Panelist

Ryan is the Finance Director at ADM Capital Foundation (ADMCF). His previous experience includes public audit with KPMG in Toronto, boutique financial advisory and business development with asset management firms in Los Angeles and Hong Kong, respectively.

 

At ADMCF, Ryan splits his time between internal financial matters and supporting the foundation’s portfolio across Southeast Asia by providing due diligence, financial management and strategic advisory services. He designed and manages Powali, an accounting and impact reporting software initiative of ADMCF tailored for NGOs and social enterprises.

 

Ryan is a graduate of McGill University (BComm Accounting) in Montreal and INSEAD’s Social Entrepreneurship Programme in Singapore. He also hold a Practising Certificate in Securities from HKSI.

RIDLEY, Ben

Regional Head of Sustainability Affairs for Asia Pacific

Panelist

Ben is Regional Head of Sustainability Affairs for Asia Pacific at Credit Suisse. He has almost 20 years of experience as a sustainability professional working across the Asia Pacific region, and has been resident in Hong Kong throughout this period. At Credit Suisse, Ben is responsible for managing sustainability issues in the region, including technical and reputational assessments of environmental and social (labour, community) matters associated with Bank transactions, and for the management of relationships with key stakeholders including the regional NGO community.

 

Prior to joining Credit Suisse in 2008, Ben worked in environmental consultancy, latterly as Director of the environmental business stream for the East Asia operations of an international consultancy business where he managed or oversaw some 300 projects in support of a broad range of customers primarily involved with manufacturing, waste management, construction and real estate, and private equity.

LIU, Frances

ESG Specialist for Greater China

Frances Liu is an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Specialist of Bloomberg LP based in Hong Kong, specializing in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan markets. She has been highly involved in ESG product development at Bloomberg since early 2011. She has demonstrated her strong leadership skills in leading the team to cover data for major ESG companies in the Greater China region.

 

Apart from Product Development, Frances has also focused on investor education and has been invited to speak in various ESG seminars such as Responsible Investor Asia ESG summit in Singapore, Carbon Disclosure Project Launch Event held in Hong Kong and Beijing. She also participated in the Shanghai Stock Exchange Focus Group to actively provide feedback and suggestions regarding China CSR Guideline and ESG developments

 

Moreover, Frances has taken a step further to organize ESG events with ASrIA in April last year to promote the importance of Carbon Disclosure and also engaged with ASrIA and RIRA (Responsible Investment Research Association) in India to promote sustainable investment. She is also the Joint coordinator of the first Hong Kong Sustainability Reporting Working Group in HK.

 

Frances has worked in Bloomberg for 6 years and has extensive experience in leading various projects.

LANDERS, Bonny

Senior Banker

Panelist

Bonny Landers is a senior banker with 25+ years of experience in the international markets, primarily with Chase Manhattan Bank and JP Morgan Chase & Co.

 

From 2005, Bonny has been Chief Executive of a Hong Kong family office which is active in wealth management, philanthropy, trust and estate planning and administration, accounting and family services.

 

Having been instrumental in assisting one branch of the family to move their entire portfolio to sustainable, responsible and impact investments over the past 5 years, Bonny is now focusing her efforts on the development of the field of the "New SRI" - Sustainable, Responsible and Impact investing for long-term financial returns.

 

Bonny also consults with global institutions to increase awareness, understanding and participation in ESG investing and to understand the demands of Next Gen wealth inheritors who are concerned about environmental and social issues when it comes to investing for their futures.
